Woohoo! Dumplings are one of my all-time favourite foods and yet there isn't many places to get them in Glasgow, and I'm not sure of anywhere that I can get them as a takeaway food. So I was super glad to hear about this place opening up. It is part of the laptop shop next door that they sectioned off and made into this small café style restaurant and takeaway.
They serve dumpling as well as bao zi (I would call these pork buns but they also have a beef filling), noodles, soup and at the counter there was some other options like pickled eggs and chicken wings. The seating area is small - I reckon it would seat maybe 20 people at a squish.
The menu is pretty straightforward, dumplings come in a steamer or pot sticker option. Pot sticker will always win for me as I like the added crunch. The vegetable bao zi wasn't available so you need to suss out what they have before getting your heart set on particular items. I was getting takeaway this time and I did have a little bit of a wait but the staff and owner (and other customers!) were really friendly so the banter passed the time.
I ordered 10 pork, chive & mushroom pot sticker dumplings and two bao zi - beef and a pork one. All up that cost £8 which was enough food for two people although we did have an early dinner so I would order more next time as I got hungry later on. The traffic was really bad getting home so it was probably about 45 minutes before I got to eat the dumplings, so I reheated them by steaming them for a little while first. Despite my abuse they still tasted really good, the fillings were good and the shaping of the dumplings led me to conclude they are handmade. During the week I'd had frozen dumplings that were seriously underfilled and were mostly the wrapper, these ones were generously filled and tasty. The pork buns were heaven and I would order more of these next time.
On my next visit I plan to eat in so that I get to eat the food super fresh. But going on Friday's experience I was really impressed with this new place's offerings. Someone on twitter suggested they are thinking about expanding into a breakfast menu - exciting! My other observation is that they didn't seem to have any alcohol for sale but they did have a selection of soft drinks.
