I visited Seagrove in October, but Eck's shop was closed during my short visit & this shop was recommended by both Frank Neef and Dirtworks (other local potters)- I love finding unique pots. This shop specializes in marbled and carved pots and jewelry made with scraps by his wife. I was mesmerized by the demo! He showed me his process of going from 4 colors of clay to throwing a plate on the wheel, lifting the sides into a bowl (to preserve the marbled and not muddy the colors). He then picked up a leather hard bowl and demonstrated how to carve the layers back and creating evolving patterns around the pots.
