The insider's view on the Egg.*
One of two Vegetarian cafes in Liverpool, both co-exist on the same street oddly enough, it's quiet a niche and unique place. Up the twirly rickety stairs through the swing doors, is a purple haven which is decorated with painted vine leaves and there is also an art exhibition up on the walls which gets changed once a month (some very good, some *ahem* not so... make up your own minds).
There is a poetry evening which runs once month and sometimes a guy with a harp comes to play.
It's a really friendly and laid-back cafe/restaurant which is open pretty much all day everyday which serves huge portions of good wholesome veggie/ vegan grub for decent prices.
The set menu is great value for money as you get a 3 course meal (anything on the menu) and tea/coffee for £9.75. Although, it's a surprise if people don't ask to take their cake home at the end, finishing it is quite the task!
It's usually very busy at the weekends and it's a very different atmosphere at night, all candlelit and mellow and a lovely place to spend an evening with a bottle of wine (£1 corkage) and friends.
