3.5 stars overall... First of its kind - Indian street food in Hillside. About time for something new in the neighborhood but classic by design. A very nice casual dining spot off the street but showcasing Street Food.
I was so excited to try this place given the name and for the unique menu offerings. Came here for lunch with my fellow foodie and just had to try a little bit of everything. Onto the food:
- we started with the green boiled fry as an appetizer. Two eggs boiled with very good Indian spices in there (a little too much heat for me but doable).
- shared the Chicken Tandoori with rice - nice sear and not dry which is important. The yogurt sauce was delicious. Rice was good too. However, it was lacking some flavor profiles. Needs a little more flavor like the Halal trucks offer.
- Egg curry entree, comes with your choice of sliced bread or roti - I chose the roti. Roti was so good and perfect accompanyment for scooping up that curry. It was my favorite dish this visit. Aka Surti Kheemo. Mildly spiced with a garlic tomato base.
- Samosa Chaat, was disappointed with this snack. Not because of the flavor but because it was still cold on the inside! Shocking! Well, at least that means it's not cooked twice like pre-cooked and refried. But maybe it needs to be. I can't believe it was cold on the inside when the outside was perfectly crisp and hot.
- Drinks we ordered that came canned. Loved the Jeera Masala (cumin and fennel flavored iced tea, a little sweet with carbonation) and the Limca (lemon lime) drink, no sugar. Like flavored seltzer.
I'd be willing to return to try more things especially since I'm a fan of having eggs any time of day. Am thinking omelette next... read more
