This could easily become the longest review ever so I'm going to try to keep it at a reasonable length, but no promises. Where do I even start? When this bathroom project completed I sent a couple pics to a bff in Arizona who said they were jealous of my bathroom, and I said strangely I was too! It hadn't sunk in yet this was my bathroom, it was surreal. I've been enjoying it for the last few weeks and sometimes it's still surreal. Our next door neighbor wanted to see and mi madre sent over some pics, she said it was every woman's dream bathroom. It's the nicest room in the house, and I'm still getting it organized and decorated but it's really perfect. I took bids from 16 different contracting companies before going with Erwin. I almost made the mistake of going with another company who was able to start a week sooner but something felt off and thankfully Erwin still had availability. I can confirm he is 100% worth the wait. The in person consult was efficient and thorough, and an itemized estimate came through pretty quickly. Erwin and Alex were wonderful to work with, very respectful, kept me informed through every stage of the process, and I had free rein to be as creative and specific as I wanted around the design and details. I spent an insane amount of time looking at paint swatches, countertops, cabinet hardware, mirrors, sconces, fixtures, bath tubs, tile, you name it (that was a personal choice). I decided to paint some of the bathroom hardware I was reusing copper, and unfortunately the weather got too cold for me to complete all pieces so I will finish in the spring, but they installed everything that I had completed before the cold weather delayed my little side quest. A friend of mine has color changing lights throughout their house and I decided to go with Wiz drop lights and bulbs in the sconces. Anytime I had questions on compatibility / feasibility, Erwin was happy to confirm if what I wanted could be integrated and how we could approach it. I really appreciate the care that went into protecting the surrounding areas during this project, they covered the floor from the front door to the bathroom to protect the flooring and also created a makeshift hallway / barrier between my bedroom and the master bathroom using plastic tarp and tension rods with clamps. This ensured dust and other particulates didn't spread into my bedroom. Every subcontractor that came through in this project was also courteous and punctual. Andre came in and did the tile for the floor and walls, this guy is an artist. He doesn't just open the boxes and starts throwing tile down, he looked at the panels and arranged them in a way to create an intentional design on the walls, making it look like a continuous marble piece similar to large marble slabs. The guy that came in to do the drywall (we went down to the studs to replace 1/4" drywall with 1/2" drywall for better results) was great too, I feel bad I don't remember his name. The previous owner made some weird design choices in this bathroom, including created a false wall / partition(?) that made the corner vanity smaller and awkward. There was a built in walk in tub I never used the entire time I was here. The pipes had rust and water would fill the tub with nasty water (this was a tub issue only) but I didn't like the walk in style anyway. The corner shower was a tiny circular shower with very little room. They were able to expand the corner shower out to a 44" x 36" shower with a wall that includes a niche. There's so much room in the shower now which is really nice. Changing out the tub to a floating / standing tub also opened up that side of the room. It looks great and the baths are heavenly. Removing the weird false wall-corner-thing meant we had more countertop space. Erwin also provided me with referrals for businesses he's worked with before when looking at cabinets, tile, and countertops. When the cabinets I picked came back over budget, he recommended another local business he worked with and we were able get cabinets I liked within budget. This bathroom is beautiful and most importantly it's functional for me now. I wanted a dark moody goth bathroom, like the "dark mode" version of my favorite bathrooms at Grand Hyatt in downtown Seattle, or the Paramount Hotel in Portland, now my favorite bathroom is mine. This is legit the goth/rave/spa bathroom to get ready in before going out, or to relax in if I'm staying home. :) I have a few friends who have had recent home projects in the last year and have had various headaches through their process. I have been very fortunate with how well everything came together and that comes down to working with the right team. We will be working with Erwin again when it's time to paint the house in the summer. Bottom line is if you have anything coming up where you need a contractor, this is your man.
