Update: "Emily," whoever she is, is not helpful at all. The responses feel automated, and the phone number she keeps posting under reviews is a complete waste of time--don't bother calling it.
Just like their so-called corporate office, you'll end up getting transferred right back to the same location you're already having issues with. There is no real customer support--just a loop designed to avoid accountability.
If you're okay with being price-baited, lured in with easy online setup, and then hit with steep rate increases within a few months--with little to no clear communication--then by all means, this is the place for you.
Otherwise, don't bother.
I would not recommend Extra Space Storage in Elkridge, MD.
The manager, Ryan, is extremely rude and repeatedly reminds customers that he is "the manager," as if that excuses poor customer service. The overall attitude from staff has been dismissive and unprofessional. I also learned that Ryan and another employee, Jessica, placed comments about me in their internal system that were completely inappropriate.
I attempted for weeks to pay my bill online but the system would not allow it. The month of February being shorter caused the system to push the next month forward, and it would not accept payment for the prior month online even though it could be paid in the lobby. The payment methods should function the same way, but they did not.
Instead of addressing the technical issue or the customer service concerns, the facility attempted to move forward with eviction notices. When I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, their corporate office responded only about the fees being correct and never addressed the behavior of their staff or the service issues.
The rent for my 10×10 unit increased from $120 per month to $172, which is a significant jump. I also noticed many units on my floor with red locks, which suggests other customers may be experiencing similar problems.
If you're considering storage, you may want to look at smaller, locally owned facilities instead. In my experience they tend to treat customers with more respect and understanding.
