I was visiting my aunt in Pittsburgh and accidentally broke her anvient thermostat. The front panel just fell off when I was trying to fiddlw with the controls. The model was so old that I was not able to find a manual for it and after I noticed it still had a mercury capsule for measuring temperature I told her we should replace the whole thing anyway. I had no idea how the wiring worked, so I looked for a handyman nearby with experience working on these older models. I found Oleh through his website, he told me he has replaced the exact same model in the past and even told me what the wires were upfront so I decided to go with him to do the job. He said he could buy a replacement on his way to me and didn't charge me extra, even showed me the receipt for how much he paid for the new one. I paid 25$+tax for the new thermostat and 85$ for the replacement work. He knew exactly what he was doing. Because the new device was smaller he also applied some drywall filler to patch up the spot for free.
