I saw this place catty-corner from Kelly's Corner and noticed a patron bouncing from Flashbacks to Kelly's and back. I'm a fan of good local spots, Kelly's already had a good Yelp reputation and so I had to check out Flashbacks.
Upon entering the joint I found it to be a little brighter than I expected. You can't sneak in unnoticed in this place, but don't sweat it - the folks are really friendly here!
The bar is a perfect rectangle in the middle of the room and it is uncluttered with only a single set of beer taps on one side. There are 13 flat screen TVs around the walls showing different sporting events, there's a pool table, two dart boards, a digital juke box, a classic shuffle-board bowling game and a cigarette machine (new style but I haven't seen one in ages!) They have a "beer to go" offering with a cooler loaded for you to purchase a sixer and hit the road if you please.
Did I mention the friendly folks? During my whistle wetting adventure the bartender and the other patrons were very relaxed, fun to talk to and really genuine. I felt very welcomed and at ease which is all I really wanted - besides some frosty suds.
But what about Kelly's across the street? Is there a rivalry or anything between them? If you have a beer at Flashbacks will you still be welcome at Kelly's? Have no fear! The beer flows freely at either bar and there's no reason to avoid one if you've been seen at the other - they all know each other and it's all good.
If you're in the area you really must give this local bar a visit. read more
