By far the most well spent $159 I EVA spent, EVA! Chere's Log Saturday Evening 10/27/07 * 6:35pm Hmmm thinking to self really want to get this wireless modem set up so I lounge in front of the TV and Yelp on this killer lap top I got - thanks to my girl Roni E. * 6:36 Decide to try it myself - what the hell just gonna chill at home tonight anyhow. * 6:46 Leaving for Best Buy in Everett to buy Modem. More than ready to invest the time it takes for me to do it myself. * 7:00 get to Best Buy, find the moden I found on line, and surprise a sales guy! Who would of known? But Ohh look it's not a pesty Best Buy Sales Rep. It's the Geek Squad dude and NO! they don't wear capes. But they do drive VW Beetles. Ha Ha! Looks remotely like my cousin Dave. He looks pleasant like my cousin - so I welcome the unsolicted help. GS: Hi do you need any help finding anything? Me: Hi! I'm looking for a wireless modem for my condo. GS: The one in your hand is perfect. Small Place? Me: Yup. :) GS: That one is perfect for you. Me: Cool, I read these are pretty simple to set up. GS: In theory yes, but you know how that goes. Me: Seriously, yes I do. (Bracing myself for the inevitable sales pitch, but surprisingly welcoming it.) GS: For $159 we can have someone come to your house and set it up, make sure it's secure. We can have in done in 10 minutes. Me: Done. Can someone do it tonight? GS: Uhhhh, (does the universal symbol for looking at wrist for time, even though there is no watch on his wrist) how far do you live from here? Me: 10 minutes, and to be honest if someone can't do it tonight, I'll probably just call Comcast. (Thinking to self I hate Comcast so much, but I'm also feeling a tad bit impatient. I am also part Chinese according to boy Kenny, so I feel it's an approproate time to kick in my kick ass skills at negotiating a deal.) GS: OK I'll do it. Follow you home and set it up. Me: Cool! :) (Then thoughts of axe murderer....) Wait you do really work here, right? GS: I do. Smiles. Me: Just Checking. ( I then proceed to ask about 10 more people in the Best Buy Blue shirts if they know him). Cool safety check clear, strange man welcome into my home. 7:20pm walk into house (action lan inplace with my girl Pam, just incase he's not cool). 7:34 He leaves. 7:35pm sitting in front of my TV, enjoying my new laptop and tv at the same time. Yeah baby. =) I'm so happy. I was really impressed with their service, very friendly and courteous. In addition, I felt very safe allowing this stranger into my home. Everything I've heard about the Geek Squad has been validated. They don't talk to you as if you have you head up your ass about computer type things, and they are efficient as hell. Dude AKA as Curt was not kidding about the 10 minutes in my house. I was also pleased at how patient he was to answer my questions and made sure to check that I was comfortable with everything before he left. So yeah $159 was well worth the investment. He mentioned to me that this was pretty much the flate rate for house calls. No additional fee's, or cost after the first 10 minutes. No geeky questions, no geeky behavior and poof he was gone. These dudes will definitely be my back up when Roni E isn't available. Her rates are cheaper - 2 Soco's and Coke. LMAO. 5 black-rimmed-coke-bottle-glassed in my book. read more
