I was in the area for a show so my friends and I stopped by the Le Parker Meridien for their annual Gingerbread Extravaganza. Bakeries from the area create sculptures out of gingerbread, gum, jelly beans etc. The theme this year is "Quintessential New York". You can buy a ticket for $1 or 8 tickets for $5 to vote for your favorite creation. All proceeds benefit City Harvest which is an organization dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women and children. My favorite is The Candy Commuter by Norma's bakery! There were a few empty spots that didn't have their work displayed... The United Nations building and Coney Island. I would've LOVED to have seen a Coney Island gingerbread creation. Oh well... Overall a cool exhibit that also helps the needy! read more
