I've lived in the area for over 20 years, never heard about this place. But I noticed it tucked away in a large strip mall around lunch time so I figured I'd give it a shot.
There seemed to be regulars coming in and getting "the usual" staff referring to customers by name, sending greetings to common friends. It all felt very neighborhood friendly.
They didn't know me, so they were polite but in some ways I felt very out of place. Figuring out the menu, choosing a side grabbing a drink it seemed like all the things I had to do were an annoyance.
I have no barometer for NY deli. I ordered a corned beef sandwich with macaroni salad on the side. They are a Pepsi account with a fountain behind the counter, but I just grabbed a bottle.
I opted to sit in their little dining area. There are 2 fish tanks and lots of nautical things on the wall. A muted TV had sports highlights on. I felt like it took a while to get my food, but was happy with it for the most part. Macaroni salad was fresh and had a nice sweet finish to it, fresh pickles added a nice crunch. Corned beef was hot and just the right salted taste that leave you happy. I will say it seemed like the corned beef wasn't really piled on, so I found myself still hungry. That may have more to do with me than their portion size. Maybe I'll hit up DoCo down the block.
All in all for $10 it wasn't a bad lunch.
I left feeling a little blah, I'll try again another day. Worth a visit, let me know how you make out. read more
