My child attended SK here. The teachers are very knowledgeable. Debbie (SK teacher and assistant administrator) has been a teacher for more than 25 years!
They follow a curriculum that really prepares them for grade 1 extremely well. Everyday, they monitor the child's progress against the curriculum. They even give a "report card" at the end of the year.
The hours are 8:00am to 5:45pm. Morning snacks, lunch, and afternoon snacks are provided.
They go out to the Nathan Phillips Square playground in the early morning and late afternoon each day. In the event of rain and bad weather, they use the City Hall gym.
For JK and SK, they hold special special interest classes in music, French, and dance. In the winter, they have ice skating in the Nathan Phillips Square rink. In the summer, they have "picnics". Once a year, they have a picnic on Center Island for the entire daycare.
They teach the children responsibility and friendly play.
If your child has an accident, they write up an incident report.
There was a shooting near City Hall once. I happened to be there to witness their emergency protocol (move all children into 2 internal rooms without windows) and keep them occupied. They will call up and email parents to explain what happened. read more
