The Holodomor (also known as the Ukrainian Famine) was a mass famine that took place in Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union) from 1932-1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians. It has since been recognized widely as an intentional genocide against the Ukrainian people carried out by the Soviet government. This memorial, very near Union Station, is dedicated to those who died during the Holodomor. It's simple but beautiful and affecting. I didn't know it was here but saw it across the street when I was enjoying a leisurely walk from Union Station to Penn Quarter. It's worth a visit to learn about the Holodomor or pay your respects if you're in the area. read more
