Takeout lunch from Honolulu, Hawaii...
Located in Manoa Marketplace, Honolulu Kitchen has taken the place of Island Manapua.
The original location of Honolulu Kitchen in Waipahu has closed for business. They were famous for deep fried manapua.
This new location doesn't have fried manapua (cha siu bao) on the menu, but it does have baked and steamed... and with different fillings besides chasiu.
Free shared parking and friendly, efficient service was much appreciated!
The interior was clean and bright! There were chairs along the wall and a Pokémon movie playing for customers who were waiting for their orders.
I got the Boneless Peking duck cake noodles, a baked manapua, a chasiu jin dui (fried mochi filled with BBQ pork), and a ma tai su (turnip and pork fillingin a flakey baked crust).
I've had better jin dui elsewhere. This one was on the soggy side, and extra oily.
The filling of the ma tai su was off - my sister thought it was somewhat bitter. I cannot describe it.
I liked the baked cha siu bao! The bun was on the sweet side.
The Boneless Peking duck was sparse, but I enjoyed the small pieces of duck skin. I liked the cabbage. The noodles were ok... cake noodles are better at other places.
My curiosity was cured. I had my comfort food. I'd like to try the sweet sour pig's feet, rice cake, and jai next! read more
