I've only been at Houndstooth a couple times but really like it! A quick google comes up with a coffee menu, like whaaaaa? Maybe I'll drop in sometime to try that, but I've only been in the evenings as they are famous for being one of Toronto's many local live music venues. The first time I noticed them was after following Sophia Fly, a local DJ as she spun her platters there on the regular. This bar is known as being friendly to all, and that includes people who want to go out but don't have the money to hang out at upscale places. The house beer has the Houndstooth motif on the can which lets everyone know you value your beer. Tall boys are only $6. What? Whatever happened to "scamflation" here? And the other thing. Who wants to pay a cover charge for a bar? Nobody I know, that's for sure! Covers are not a thing here, and that's a huge relief. No stink-eye from a scary-looking dude at the door asking for a handout. Instead, they use a donation bin, similar to the jar passed around at Cameron front room. Don't be a schmo, pay up people! This is done so they can continue to have a casual door policy and people who genuinely can't afford the coin, can still come out and dance. I was last there on New Years Eve, when people often don't go out, "It's too expensive to go out on NYE!!" Quit yer whining and go here. It was zero cover, cheap beer flowing and a packed bar and dance floor appreciating one of Toronto's best live bar bands ever, including one member who works here at the bar. One of the signature features here is the massive front picture windows with the stage right there! This is a fantastic feature where the band playing can be enjoyed from outside, gathering a group outside where you can smoke and listen to the pounding music through the glass, and also drink since there isn't much for bouncers hassling ya.
