We stopped at I Porci Comodi while visiting Pisa and ordered what I think is called their pork platter, and I can honestly say it was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. The pork comes from a special breed of pig with a distinctive black band around its waist, which is said to have a higher fat content that might even help lower cholesterol. I can't speak to the health benefits, but I can absolutely say every bite was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The platter was beautifully arranged with fresh bread, cheeses, spreads, and perfectly sliced meats that were full of rich, savory flavor. It was the kind of food experience you dream about when you imagine authentic Italian specialties, and it's just a shame this gem is thousands of miles away from home because I would go back in a heartbeat. If you're anywhere near Pisa, do yourself a favor and stop here -- you won't regret it! read more
