Studio In Essence has heart. Beyond its lofty downtown studio space is a very cultivated approach to health & fitness. The Studio creates a unique energy through the-- Ahem-- 'power of movement'. Pilates, Reformer (Pilates on machines), Pole Dance, Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, Hula Hoop, Breakdance and Gyrokinesis are some of the studio's main classes.
I've actually tried most of the classes, and what I can say is that they work hard to instill a greater awareness into their students. The instructors are fun and all seem to resonate with the same value of lifestyle. Classes are guided, smart, but playful too!
It may take a few classes to get a feel for it. Pilates starts off slow, so if you have prior experience, talk to them about it. They are great on a one on one basis! But if you don't have experience, its best to take the time to properly learn the foundations before plunging in! My sister has been doing the pilates mat twice a week for just over a month now (with no prior experience) and is making serious progress. The beginning is just a bit gradual.
There's definitely a culture at In Essence. If you are into the quick fix sort of thing, then this probably won't cut it for you. The studio also hosts really cool dance shows. If you are curious about classes but a bit shy, this would be an excellent way to see what they're all about.
Becoming aware of the body while having fun through movement seems to be key. (Did I mention that the owner had monkey bars installed onto the ceiling?) If you are bored from the gym or in a state of bla, this is a spot to shake things up and feel good doing it! read more
