Was in the area and stumbled upon this quaint diner. I was able to just walk in and grab a seat since it was a bit quiet on Saturday morning. There is counter/bar seating as you walk in and a few tables throughout. Service was overall good and the owner was friendly. Food came out fairly quickly as well.
I ordered:
1) 25th Avenue Omelette(8/10)($18.95) - I was surprised with their version of an omelette. Usually, the filling is nestled in middle of the omelette, but their version has it where the filling is integrated/mixed into the omelette(sort of like a scramble) but the cheese is nestled in between the omelette. This made for a very cheesy and gooey omelette which I quite enjoyed since the ingredients were evenly distributed throughout the omelette.Overall the ingredients were fresh and plenty throughout the omelette, came out hot and was just the right amount of savoriness. I opted for grilled potatoes with onions; which was pretty good as well. Majority of the potatoes were grilled well and had a nice crunch to them; just wish there was a bit more onions though.
2)House Blend Coffee(Small)(7.5/10)($2.99) - I also quite liked this blend of coffee that they used. According to the menu, it is a blend of Colombian and French Roast; which was pretty strong without being too bitter or tasting like an ash tray. I wasn't too sure if it came with free refills or not, since it doesn't note it on the menu, but the owner did come by to top off my coffee once.
Pricing overall seems reasonable and the portions sizes were decent. Java Blue is a homey and no frills diner for breakfast/brunch and will definitely come back again to give their other fare a try! read more
