It's not rocket science, it's business 101
1. People buy from people they like
2. People remember how you made them feel not what you sold them
The owner is certainly not striving for raving fans or amazing reviews. IMO, donut and ice cream shops should be fun places.
I bought a croissant with bacon. The lady behind the counter heated it up without asking if I'd like it heated up because that would have been interacting with me. It was soggy by the time I got home only a few miles away. The bacon? Uhmmm see pic.
I was being chatty and even thanked her for hearing it up but she wasn't biting on any of it. She was busy on her phone while I'm still standing there putting my change back in my wallet. As a business owner you should at minimum try to get to know your customers. Heck, at Great Outdoors Sandwich Shop they know your name and what you ordered even if you hadn't been there for a year!
I pass up a donut shop closer because the person was actually rude so I will never go there again. This lady was apparently inconvenienced by my presence, she didn't take the opportunity to make it a wonderful fun experience because her phone was more important than a live customer standing right in front of her open for a quick conversation. I asked if she was the owner and shocked when she said yes.
I guess donuts sell themselves so no need for her to personalize the experience. Will I go back? Maybe...but probably not. Also, apparently this is a homeless hangout because of the liqueur store next door. There was a guy sitting there when I was there and if you look on Google maps there are two homeless guys loitering. Too bad Dallas can't figure out how to help these people. read more
