This is a charming breakfast & lunch spot, just south of Sioux City, IA - a few miles away from the airport. The staff is friendly and make you feel very welcome. When you walk through the door, there is a long, 1940's style soda fountain counter right in front of you. Wooden booths flank the two windows, and the remainder of the space is taken up by tables and chairs. A gift shop is off to the right. They go all out for holidays and a Halloween animatronic greeted us when we entered (this is written in October.)
While deciding what to order, sodas were accompanied by ice cold frosted mugs. Menu is small and they were out of a couple of items.
The food is ok, but there were two issues which resulted in the four stars, instead of five. 1.) The grilled cheese sandwich was grilled in grease that left an odd taste. Not enough to deter eating it, but definitely noticeable. 2.) The chicken salad tasted like it was made with a cheap sandwich dressing, not mayonnaise - a little bit disappointing.
Service was quick and super friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth a repeat visit if only to see the seasonal decorations. By the way, you can only pay by cash or check. No credit cards accepted. read more
