Tabac de l'Assemblee is a nice cafe with multiple floors near the National Assembly but far enough off the beaten path that it's not filled with tourists. Many locals seem to come here especially on the first floor where there is a counter dining experience, as well as some grab and go type of items. Our poor waiter here was nice enough but would get frustrated with us because of the language barrier. Nothing against him or the restaurant though as I completely understand this. I had the croque madame for 9 euros which is an amped up Croque Monseiur with an egg on top. Mmmm! Liked it quite a bit and after having it at a few places, I much preferred it here. I did find that 9 euros for this sandwich was a bit more pricey than at other cafes. My table also shared a French Onion Soup Gratinee for 8.50 euros and we liked it quite a bit. Amstel 25cl was 4.10 euros and Leffe 25cl was 5.40 euros. My friends and I had a lovely time here, had some brews, decent food, nothing to complain of but wouldn't make this a destination spot. read more
