The place called, "LIBRARY MALL" is not often considered to be a destination of choice, but it is the hub of a few world-class destinations. These world-class destinations include, Memorial Union, University of Wisconsin - Madison, and State Street. At Memorial Union, one can enroll in mini-courses, and take lessons in, e.g., jazz dance, tap dancing, clogging, and ballroom dancing. At Memorial Union, one can order a pitcher of Old Style Dark and spend an hour on the terrace with friends, admiring Lake Mendota. On State Street (in past years) one can watch the "Boom Box Parade" led by Leon Varjian, as shown in my photographs. (Mr. Varjian was president of Pail & Shovel Party, and he devised the Bascomb Hill Pink Flamingo prank, and he also devised the Statue of Liberty prank on frozen Lake Mendota). The Boom Box Parade headed down State Street, where it concluded at Library Mall. On State Street, one can watch or participate in "Halloween on State Street." In my experience, "Halloween on State Street" spills over on Library Mall. Also on Library Mall we find University Club, where my all-time-great buddy (Kevin Block) and I once had lunch. Of course, a library is located on Library Mall, though I went inside only two or three times, and this was to read an English translation of the Talmud. Moreover, on Library Mall, we find the Historical Society, where one can enjoy exhibits of various kinds. The clogging group, The Kickapoo Cloggers, accompanied by bluegrass musicians called, Stone Soup, once performed inside of the Historical Society. read more
