We recently visited Long Key State Park and absolutely loved the experience. This park is such a peaceful hidden gem in the Florida Keys and honestly deserves far more attention than it gets. The scenery is beautiful with crystal-clear water, mangroves, palm trees, and relaxing shoreline views everywhere you look.
One of the coolest things about this park is the shoreline itself. There are tiny pieces of coral and shell fragments scattered throughout the beach area, and if you pay attention to the limestone rocks, you can even spot fossilized marine life embedded inside them. It makes the entire area feel incredibly unique and full of natural history.
The park is very clean, well maintained, and easy to explore. The trails are simple to walk and offer amazing views of Florida Bay. It is the perfect place for kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, fishing, photography, or simply relaxing away from the crowds.
We also enjoyed learning about the fascinating history of the old Long Key Fishing Camp that once existed here before the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane.
If you are traveling through the Florida Keys, this stop is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. Check out our video on our social @reessroots read more
