Center Street Social is a small pub/restaurant right near where Long Hill Avenue drains into Center Street (which is an extension of Bridgeport Avenue near downtown Shelton). It's done up in all dark wood with a bar, restaurant-style seating for about 20, and an outdoor patio. It feels more like a bar than like a nice restaurant, so be aware if you're thinking of taking a date there. (If anyone is smoking on the patio, expect to smell it in the whole restaurant.) There are several big-screen TVs typically tuned to sports.
The food is pretty much "soup and sandwiches" with a few appetizers thrown in labeled as "Smalls". Everything is very tasty and well-presented. Portions are on the small side for the prices, but I can't complain about the quality. There is a large drinks menu.
The staff is friendly, but clearly still learning the ropes. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want - they will happily get it for you - but they may not figure it out on their own. A nice touch is a large bottle of ice water left on the table for everyone to serve themselves from.
Overall, recommended. I don't see myself being there every week, but I'll be stopping by from time to time. read more
