I just stopped over here today, this is a brand new European style Café that is next door Ming's BBQ, where they have hhgregg's. This place is beautiful, the entire décor within this café is white and they have these really cool tables with different chemistry formulas in the center of each table. They even have an electrical outlet behind every individual table that has its own USB port to plug in electrical devices that require a USB cord, so this place is perfect for anyone who wants to grab a bite to eat, have a latte, buy some deserts or order some bread togo while catching up on some school work. Macaron Laboratory (Mac Lab) is open on Mondays from 11 to 9, Tuesdays they are closed and on Wednesday's through Sunday they are also open from 11AM-9PM. While here, I noticed that the owners had on display their degree from CIA (The Culinary Institute of America in New York) anyone who knows culinary, knows this is the crème de la crème for culinary arts. I know this café will do extremely well, these people really know their baking and pastry, as well as coffee and the staff was extremely friendly. Everyone there had a smile on their face and their passion really showed. Usually when I am in Decatur, I will visit the Dancing Goats coffee bar, because it is owned by Batdorf & Bronson, who are very well known in the Atlanta market for their darn good blended coffees that they roast. The fantastic news is that Mac Lab bakery & café only uses Batdorf & Bronson coffee, so I am very happy, as now I do not have to drive far to get an excellent expresso or latte. While here today I had their hazelnut latte (café au lait) which was really good, the foam was velvety. If you love Macarons (french), or never had one before, I highly recommend the Green tea or Chocolate, they are extremely good. Take a 1/4 size bite and allow the macaron to sit on your tongue and move around on your palate, the exterior layer has a nice crisp shell and the center is nice and moist. After talking to the staff, they said they are made fresh every day, so come early, as they sell out quick. I have been to other places and they usually sit for days, so it is nice to be able to get freshly made Macarons. Keep in mind, it is strongly recommend that they are eaten at room temperature, they keep them cold here, so they recommend letting them sit for about 5 minutes before eating them. For those who are not familiar with Macarons, keep in mind they are sweet, considering that they are made up of 70% sugar. They are made from Almond Flour (I checked, this stuff is expensive), so they are gluten free, which is why Macarons are pricey. This is my new spot for coffee and pastries.
