My first time trying Iraqi food! I got the Machboos Chicken (whole chicken). It came with rice, pickles and a sauce called Daqous. It was about $38 after taxes. The chicken was tasty, but the flavours were subtle. I was expecting more pronounced flavours.
The chicken was tender, moist and fell off the bone. The chicken was on the small side though. The rice was soft and fluffy, but a bit too salty for my liking. I was a bit disappointed that I only got the white rice, as I saw pictures on Google Maps where the rice is half white rice and half orange rice. Maybe I had to request that? I don't know. Anyway, the Daqous sauce was tomato based and had okra in it, as well as garlic and shredded meat (maybe lamb or beef?). It was oily and the flavour was surprisingly muted. The pickles on the other hand were potent! So picklely! Lol. Too strong for my tastes.
We got takeout, but there are a few tables to eat in. Service was efficient. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but I was advised of the wait beforehand (was about 20 minutes).
Overall, my husband and I enjoyed the meal. I love trying new cuisines, so I'm thrilled to have finally tried some Iraqi food. I do love the cultural mosaic that is Canada.
There is very limited free parking in front of the restaurant. The lot is small and tight. Not the best parking situation, but better than no parking.
