I dined at Macu this week on Tuesday night with work colleagues. It was my first visit to the restaurant. The décor is modern, and all around fabulous with fireplaces, full wine racks, and a very open layout. It's been around over a decade at least.
We had a three course set menu. The veal pastrami starter was good, but uninspiring -- looked like they could've taken a few slices from a package, then just added some toppings. Paired with a light red wine. The main dish was rainbow trout. It was tasty, but very traditional Finnish cuisine that might be prepared similarly at home. Paired with a white wine. The mousse dessert was a good end to the meal.
In the end, my expectations exceeded what Macu delivered. For that menu price, I was hoping for more elegant, refined dishes. The meal was certainly tasty and I enjoyed the evening, but Macu misses the mark when it comes to value. read more
