On my quest for the perfect avocado toast in San Francisco I thought I'd check out Manny's. The menu showed no avocado toast until weekend brunch, but they had avocados & kindly made me avocado toast. It did not disappoint. Two slices of bread that were actually toasted! (A rarity for some reason). Next layer avocado which was spread a little thin, cucumber slices, a generous pile of greens, topped with chili oil. Delicious. Arriving at Manny's on Valencia & 16th I saw two guys In the open corner window conducting a live radio show. BFF.FM. They beckoned me & asked what I'm up to. Since I'm not microphone shy I proceeded to tell them about my quest for the perfect avocado toast in SF. They started laughing. Why? One of their topics this morning was alerting people to the annual Guacamole Contest in Bernal Heights this Saturday. Kismet. I'll definitely be there. Decor's kind of 70s with all the hanging plants & wall of books. (In a good way). Love the Kamala cardboard cutout standing proudly at the window. Manny's is familiar to me as I've attended their political meet & greets, as well as tv watch parties. In fact, they have an election count down sign on the outside wall. Their welcome statement painted on the wall: "We are a space where the community comes together to take part in civic & political life. We are a town hall, a village square, the place where anyone can meet and engage with civic leaders, elected officials, artists, activists, changemakers, and each other.
