We're here in the central part of the state of Michigan doing a 22 mile bike ride on the beautiful Falling Waters Trail between the cities of Jackson and Concord.
Upon arriving in the small town of Concord (population 1,200) after the first 11 miles, we were thrilled to see the breakfast cafe on Main Street open for business.
My wife and I have been loyal customers of this little cafe when bike riding through Concord over the past 10 years. During that period, it was known by two other names: the Silver Spoon Cafe and the Concord Cafe.
Unfortunately, like so many small restaurants, this eatery closed its doors during the year of the pandemic.
Riding up today, we noticed the familiar purple awning on Main Street still proclaims "The Concord Cafe". However, after changing hands and getting an interior facelift, it re-opened 30 days ago (May of 2021) as Mel's Place!
After walking in the door, we quickly met the new owner Mel...short for Melinda. We enjoyed chatting with her about the renovation she did in exposing the hundred year-old brick in the minimalist and spotless dining room.
We then got down to business ordering a pair of Veggie Omelettes with sliced tomatoes and raisin toast while nursing our fresh brewed cups of hot coffee.
Our breakfasts at Mel's were spectacular...just like they had been over the years when we had patronized this small business under previous owners. For this Yelper, a delicious breakfast halfway through a 22-mile bike ride is a great motivator.
Based on the excellent quality food and friendly small-town service, I expect Mel's Place to quickly build a solid reputation among the many recreational bikers that frequent the Falling Waters Trail. Five stars all day long. read more
