Point Venture Golden Gate National Recreation Area run 110-acre park located in the northern half of Pacifica. The actual "Point" is a reasonable-sized bluff that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and was named after a farmer that used this location to smuggle booze during Prohibition. I actually used to run by the point many times when I lived in Pacifica, but I never actually hiked it until recently when it had a nice super bloom of flowers. The Good: *There's now a small parking lot that holds about a half-dozen or so cars that didn't used to exist until recently. *Restroom in the above-mentioned parking lot *Dog-friendly *Not too far of a walk to the Pacifica Pier and just a few mile hike from Rockaway Beach. *Good place for a short day of hiking as there's only a few miles of trails here that include some moderate 1.5-mile loops. *Views are superb with or without the superbloom *The weather here is always mild and a good place to go hiking on a hot day. The Meh: *Parking is very limited, and there is some street parking to go along with the lot, but expect those to be filled during popular times. *Lack of signage on the trails, as it's hard to tell the official trails from the social paths. The Ugly: *The trails are in really bad and rough shape; I'm not sure if they're normally like this or this is on account of all the rain we had this year tore them up. TLDR: Fantastic views, great weather, but watch your footing, or you can kiss your ankles goodbye. read more
