I tried out this new Japanese curry place on Telegraph located in the space of the former So Oishii restaurant. Apparently it's Muracci's third location in California. The staff was very nice, but since the restaurant just opened I think they're still working out the kinks. Upon entering I thought you could just order at the counter which I was ready to do, but I wasn't given the option as they seated me and brought me the menu. It's a little confusing as the counter is the very first thing you see upon walking in, but whatever, no big deal.
The menu itself is pretty standard for a Japanese curry place, which is a good thing since the nearby Japanese restaurants typically focus on sushi or noodles. I got an order of mild katsu curry with brown rice (you have the option of brown or white) which comes with a small side of traditional pickled vegetables. The katsu was fried nicely with no extra grease. The flavor of the curry was nice and not bland like Japanese curry can sometimes be. You can really taste the spices they use. Towards the end, I started tasting a bit of a kick, but nothing too bad for those of you (like me) who can't handle spicy food too well. It was a nice-sized and filling plate of food and came out very quickly.
I can't comment on any of the other items as all the diners around me apparently also ordered the katsu curry (a popular item!). Now, heartened by my katsu curry experience, next time, I will come back and try the donburi. read more
