Amazing experience and amazing tattoo! The studio itself is breathtakingly gorgeous, minimalist, peaceful, with soothing music. When I first arrived, I wasn't sure if I was in a tattoo studio or a zen garden! These beautiful vibes are echoed in the artists working in the space, including Ping herself (@inkspot). Snacks and drinks are on offer, great bathroom facilities, comfortable tattooing beds in an open space, though privacy partitions are available if you want them. Everything is meticulously clean, which makes sense when you watch the artists work, as they not only keep the tattoo area as sterile as possible but everything around them clean and organized as well. Let's talk about the tattoo itself. Ping is an incredible artist. Check out her Instagram (@inkprick) to see examples of her range, attention to detail, and distinct style. DESIGN. I went with a blue porcelain tattoo featuring lotuses and a crane. I don't think we made a single meaningful change from her original proposed design--it was so much better than I could have ever designed myself. She understood the spirit of the design I wanted, then applied her unique style and skill to realizing it. EXECUTION. Ping is fast! I expected it to take two sessions but she executed the entire thing in a single, 6-hour session. I followed her preparation instructions to the letter, and made sure to bring along a little blanket, too, since I always find I want an extra pillow, drape, or covering for warmth in long sessions. As I said above, Ping was meticulously sanitary. Also, very clear with giving directions about how she needed me to sit while also ensuring I stayed comfortable. She ensured I knew I could ask to pause at any time, or ask for an additional session if doing it in one turned out to be too overwhelming. RESULT. The finished result blew me away--I knew it was going to be good but nothing prepared me for way Ping brought my idea, her artistry, and the canvas of my skin together. No complaints about healing whatsoever. Scabbing started on day 3, minimal discomfort, especially considering the size and placement of the tattoo. I never know how much of the healing comes down to aftercare versus the skill of the artist. I only know that this is healing very well.
