I am delighted to be this new Ogunquit on Shore Road's newest hot spot's first review! As a long season summer visitor i dine out almost nightly after doing my work during the day from my glorious patio here in my favorite place on earth- my problem has been until now! : )) that not only do I arrive pre-season but I am from New York City- I know don't hate me! I grew up here; ) but I have acquired up to date chic taste & love great wine - and my sense of time is all messed up! I get hungry for dinner at 10 pm or later most of the time after a busy day! Real problem in a town where the sidewalks roll up at 9pm! Well not anymore! Thanks to a delightful young man named Matthew who greeted me with a huge welcoming smile @ 10:15 instead of a "you must be kidding me" look- and told me his gorgeous new restaurant & bar lounge plans to serve til 1am to accommodate the après theater crowd! My kind of place indeed. I asked was there a place for a solo like me to eat at the bar ? but of course! And he walks me past a stunning art piece lighting fixture and wine cellar to die for! & personally introduces me to the charming young couple he imported from Boston to run the bar! Hipster ador and cute foodies! I look to my left and lovely Skip the man who owns my most favorite shoppe "Spoiled Rotten" is seated next to me : )) awesome! We chat & I decided to buy something great today! Matthew asked what kind of wine I like I said I like nice Italian wines- and was thinking to have a red. Without hesitation he goes to get a very professionally recorked bottle of a Fidoni which he explains that they offer any wine in their cellar by the glass provided the buyer will commit to two glasses then they have on the wall a butcher paper list (and on Internet for pre-arrival) a list of open bottles) so one can try exquisite bottles of wine that you may not want to order a whole bottle off- hipster wine sharing! How cool! My second glass was equally as good a sweeter nightcap/ also Italian and delicious. Their wine expert they told me is a woman by the name of Alisha Townes Franken of girll 23 fame of Boston, who comes in every well of so as well. Nice! The menu is all tasty trendy small plates. They gave me a menu to bring home as I planned to write this review- and I forgot it : b so I will tell you a few: I had the pork belly buns as I told them I live by David chang's momofuko- Not only did they know it- they said it was HIS recipe- I was concerned as it is beach season about eating pork belly - but they said theirs were smaller - which was nice- they could have been a tad juicer- but the place is sooo nice - maybe a tad messy might not be sexy....maybe I forgot to ask for the sauce! Aha! I saw a rolled cod stick of some sort that looked yummy and I think lobster sliders! And pickled yum Yums! Very hip all my kind of noshy stuff. All very artisanal. The Decor is open and posh - extremely high end feeling without feeling like you have to over dress either. Definitely a multimillion dollar renovation- hats off, this building needed TLC! Matthew said a young designer gal From Brooklyn did the design - in da house!!! And best part was she used a lot recycled woods from my favorite old "haunted" house that just got torn down along marginal way- green too! Hip chic yummy- great cool staff from in the area- and fantastic wine with a cool way to adventure and try new kinds- This is definitely a solid winner for any city traveler coming to Ogunquit looking to have a great night out! Really nice vibe! Much needed venue! read more
