Another one of the multitude of old-fashioned pubs that inhabit the winding narrow alleyways criss-crossing Leeds' city centre, the Pack Horse is probably the least well known of all of them and as such can seem quiet at times. Far from being a downside, however, this can be a godsend when you're looking for an afternoon pint and the Angel is packed to the rafters. An ancient pub, the Pack Horse has made few concessions to the modern era and instead sticks to what it knows: comfy if a little worn-around-the-edges surroundings, friendly people and decent beer. There's a small outside seating area good for warm evenings, and occasional live music events bring in a fairly good crowd. If you're looking for a lively night out there are better venues, but it's a fantastic hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Briggate just metres away. read more
