There are NO WORDS I can say that expresses my COMPLETE gratitude to Perk & Linda.... I was gifted my BELOVED Grandads Stetson - not the dressy one but, the hat he wore daily. This hat always on his head, dirty with soil from the home I grew up in the first years of my life, DNA embedded in the sweatband & brim. Unfortunately it was put in a washing machine, thought being, it was so dirty.... I was given a softball sized, wet, felty ball.... I was CRUSHED...(carefully) I laid out what WAS Grpa's hat to dry, which much to my surprise did, but into a shapeless mess. A pot of water was boiled, the hat shaped the best it could be & and put away for over 10 years. Passing through Pendleton in October, my bestie (Julie) & I came across Perk Perkins owner of P.H.C. The store is the very definition of home town hospitality. Julie walked away with her first 2 hats. I was able to see the care, time, effort and professionalism that was put into customization of each purchase. I told Perk the story of "Grandpa's hat" & was told (I believed him) that if anyone could breathe life into it , it would be him.... Needless to say I was back to his shop in days with grandpa's hat in hand in addition another Stetson my daughter gifted me, which Perk shaped and fitted. He took Grandpa's hat, telling me it was going to be a minute to resurrect it, making no promises. Months later I got the call to come back.... Hoping for something that would resemble my memories but knowing the condition of what I gave Perk, expectations were minimal. I was absolutely shocked to see my grandads hat! Perk somehow got it to its original blank.... He then stretched it to my head and shaped it back to its original form. Perk installed a customized leather hat band, silk liner and label of ownership. WIth tears of gratitude I wore my grandpas hat for the first time today. It has its life back and IS what I remember it to be. Today I felt those hugs that I have missed in so many years.... Pendleton Hat Company is now in charge of refurbishing my collection.... Selling and shaping your new hat is but a small part of what makes PHS special.
