If you travel to southern Maine, you owe it to yourself to visit Perkins Cove, near Ogunquit. It's a small little peninsula that is packed with restaurants, retail stores, and guided sightseeing and fishing boats. It's also a working lobster fisherman port. The main draw at Perkins Cove is the automated drawbridge that you can walk across. When a boat that is too large to fit under the bridge wants to leave, or come into the protected harbor area, a bell rings and the drawbridge goes up. As soon as the boat clears the bridge, the bell rings again and the bridge reverts back to a pedestrian crossover. There's not much parking space right in town, but there's a couple private lots just up the street that charge $20.00 to park your vehicle for as long as you want. You can also park in Ogunquit and take a trolley ride down to the Cove, which cost $5.00 per person (cash only). You can also park in Ogunquit, and walk "The Marginal Way" along the ocean cliffs, all the way down to Petkins Cove. We normally walk the Marginal Way, then take the trolley back to Ogunquit.
