Punch located in Le Germain Hotel along Mercer St. near Blue Jays Way serves up British-Indian cuisine in a refined and elegant setting. The restaurant is open daily for dinner where they also offer weekend brunch on Sat and Sun. They also have happy hour as well. The space is small and intimate, seating about 40 customers where the high ceilings bring your attention to the chandeliers and bar area, which serves as a focal point to the restaurant. There are 2 entrances to the restaurant where both are fully accessible. Menu wise, Punch serves up British classics with an Indian twist. Executive Chef Mandar Kulkarni, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, created a menu filled with familiar foods but adds Indian touches to them. The menu brings creativity and familiarity together, executed well, where one cuisine does not overpower the other. Instead, they fuse together in a playful and meaningful way. The dinner menu is sorted into small and large shares as well as sides. The cocktail menu is creative where there both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. There are also wines by the glass or bottles as well as beers. I've heard many great things about Punch prior to my visit and was excited that they were on the Summerlicious list this year. Dinner was priced at $65 per person where there were a good variety of items to choose from on their menu, which were also offered on their a la carte menu. Reservations are recommended which can be made online. My partner and I recently dined at Punch for Summerlicious dinner and it was a great experience. From the food, service, and ambiance, we will definitely return to dine at Punch in the future again. Service wise, our server, Josh, was attentive, professional, personable, and friendly. He made sure we were well taken care of during the night. All the staff at Punch were great as well. Our plates were cleared after each course and our napkins were folded every time we left the table to use the washroom. Our water glasses were also never empty as staff made sure to refill our waters throughout the night. We also got complimentary chai which is made in house at the end of our meal as well! In regards to food, we shared the following from the Summerlicious menu: - Steak tartare (ginger, capers, egg yolk, cumin, Jal Jeera aioli, gaufrettes) - Mumbai chat-slaw (Cold Creek farm radishes and beets, green apple, pomegrante, boondi, potato straw, crispy leeks, tamarind yogurt) - Beef wellington (tenderloin, prosciutto, wild mushroom duxelles, swiss chard, sunchoke puree, rogan josh jus) - Fish and chips (fresh haddock, curry leaf tartar sauce, balti sauce, chips) - Saffron pulao (basmati, cardamom, green peas, raisins, dates) - Grilled cabbage (curry leaf pesto) - Sticky toffee pudding (stout beer, walnuts, dates) - Chai-chocolate mousse (milk chocolate, cocoa-nibs, chantilly cream, olive oil) - We also ordered a wine and beer off their beverage list Food wise, all the dishes we had were delicious and creative! The Mumbai chat-slaw was refreshing with bursts of different flavours and textures from all the ingredients in the dish. The steak tartare was familiar but had hints of Indian spices where the raw beef pieces were cut to the perfect size. The gaufrettes were the perfect vessel to hold the tartare. The beef wellington was well-executed and the rogan josh jus gave the dish a unique flavour profile. The fish and chips was outstanding - the fry on that fish was perfection (super crispy and light but not oily), it was definitely one of the highlights of the night. To end the meal, both the sticky toffee pudding (our fave of the two) and chai-chocolate mousse was the perfect finish. Food was outstanding, creative, and unique where there were subtle hints of British and Indian influence - both present, one never overpowering the other. The execution of the dishes showed how the fusion of two cuisines can come together perfectly. Overall, a fantastic dining experience at Punch! The food, service, and ambiance were top-notch and we can't wait to return to Punch again in the future (we've already thought about what we would order). Highly recommend if you are looking to try something creative and delicious in the city! read more
