Right off the bat, Pylos has wonderfully attentive service. My friend and I arrived around 5:30pm without a reservation during the last restaurant week and were easily seated. Good to note that the dinner rush is after 7pm. Our server brought out complementary fava dip and pita bread. Always a great sign of hospitality, and the fava was really delicious! For appetizers we ordered the light as air meatballs (afrata keftedes) and the shrimp with ouzo (garides ouzo). The meatballs were soft and tasty but be warned they had a very strong mint flavor. The shrimp were flavored in an elegantly mild tomato sauce vaguely with cream. Very tasty. The grilled baby lamb chops (paidakia) were utterly delicious! The moussaka was okay. It had layers of stewed meat sauce with overtly strong spices, roasted eggplant and zucchini layers, and overly loose bechamel sauce. I prefer my moussaka with milder spice, thicker meat sauce, firm bechamel, and layered potatoes together with the eggplant. To each their own. For dessert we ordered the galactobourekakia which tasted off to me like it had spoiled and the phyllo tasted like old deep fried oil, a bad experience. The mousse ouzo dessert was good but I did not taste the ouzo. All in all, it makes for a pleasant night out with great service, lovely atmosphere, and good food if you know what to order. read more
