BEWARE! I had the worst experience at Quality Foreign Auto. I dropped my car off for a basic diagnostic. They sat on it for 24hrs without even starting the diagnostic. When they finally called, they claimed I needed a new alternator and a new drive belt. The total was around $1,400. Almost $700 of that was for the alternator alone. This is for a 14-year-old Nissan Juke. Anyone can see that alternators for this car are a fraction of that price. It felt like they were either marking parts up to absurd levels or they had no idea what they were looking at. When I asked them why they thought the alternator had failed, they gave me an explanation that made no sense at all. They said the alternator kept spinning after the belt stopped. On this engine, that is exactly how the alternator pulley is designed to behave. It is supposed to rotate freely. I told them to run a proper voltage test and suddenly the alternator was charging fine but is making a noise so it will fail someday somehow. And suddenly the belt did not need to be replaced after all. The deeper I pushed, the less confident they sounded and they completely lost my confidence. At that point I told them I would pick up my car and bring it somewhere else. Then a $110 "checkout fee" magically appeared! This fee had never been mentioned. Not when I made the appointment. Not when I dropped the car off. Not during the diagnosis call. Not during the back and forth about the alternator. It only appeared the moment I decided to walk. Washington law requires shops to disclose and get authorization for all charges ahead of time. They did not. They simply made up a fee and expected me to pay it. When I arrived to pick up my car and refused to pay an unauthorized charge, the receptionist became openly hostile. She insisted the fee was lawful, even though it wasn't. When I told her again to return my keys, she actually threw them at me. They hit the counter. I picked them up and asked her where my car was. She slumped back in her chair and stared at me. I had to repeat the question before she muttered that it was "somewhere in the lot." I walked around trying to find it myself. Finally a technician, who was the one decent person in the entire place (shoutout to that guy), came outside and brought the car to me. As I was leaving, the receptionist told me they would never service my car again. So childish. There is no chance I would ever trust them with anything after this mess. One last thing for anyone reading reviews. A mechanic being friendly does not mean the information is accurate or honest. A lot of people leave glowing reviews because someone smiled at them while overcharging them. Please take the time to look up the parts and repairs being recommended to you. I wish I had taken my car somewhere else before wasting my time, money, and patience here. Adding pics for verification of service and interaction.
