The following description and pictures document our horrific experience with Quality Movers Inc. The only reason they get one star is because Yelp won't let you give zeros or negatives. We hired Quality Movers to help pack our house and load two U-pack trailers. The agreed upon rate was $156/hr for three workers. Prior to moving day, we did a walk through with the owner/manager where we scheduled two days for packing and loading. He estimated it would take about 6 hours per day since we had a lot of packing to do. He mentioned it could definitely take longer. He also said we needed boxes, tape, blankets, packing paper, and tie down straps (some of these items could be provided but were much more expensive than our purchasing them). We purchased all of these items, stacked them in the front hall, placed a large sign above that read "PACKING MATERIALS" in large letters with an arrow pointing below, plus a list of what exactly was included. On the first day scheduled, only two men showed up to pack, dropped off by a third. We were charged $135/hr for the difference vs. $104/hr. The two men left more than an hour early, leaving considerably more work to do the following day. They also packed all of the moving materials we bought onto the truck. The men showed up with no tape guns. They used the cheap, plastic, disposable tape dispensers that come with a roll of tape. We have never seen a professional moving company use something like that as it would slow them down while packing. It goes to show they are not providing their workers with the appropriate tools for the job. On the second day, three men arrived. There was a ton of work to do and they worked hard, but halfway through the shift they became exhausted and their packing became sloppy, and their loading of the trucks worse to where they quite literally were just stuffing things on the trucks in a haphazard fashion, ignoring labels such as "FRAGILE" or "STORE ON TOP." It took them until 9pm to finish (but there were still many items left in closets that needed to be packed on the trucks by ourselves). The lack of care while packing the trailers also meant that we paid a lot more for the trailers since the charge was calculated by how much space was used. By having to pack the last of our things well into the night (unlike "Quality" Movers couldn't leave the job unfinished since the trailer was scheduled to be picked up in the morning) we had to delay our departure and it cost us an extra night in a hotel. It gets worse. A week later, the trailers arrived at our new home, 1200 miles away. We opened them to find a complete disaster. Everything had caved in to the center of the trailers. The movers who were hired to unload the trailers couldn't believe what they saw. There was so much damage of furniture, boxes that were not packed properly and caved in, and our 72" TV was completely destroyed. To give just one example of the sheer carelessness and complete lack of foresight of these movers, our lawnmower was loaded onto the trailer and set on top of a wooden chair, which was then torn to shreds by the blades. With all this said, while the carelessness from the very beginning was just inexcusable, the attitude of the company when we tried to claim on the damages was worse. Quality Movers had told us they were insured and that our property would be insured. What ensued was several months of fighting to get recompense for the destruction they wrought. We tried very, VERY hard to be nice--in fact, initially we told them we would be satisfied if they would merely cover the TV, and not even at full cost--just $600. Although it was an older model, it had not only been meticulously maintained, we actually had it upgraded and refurbished two days before the move so that any vibrations or shocks would not damage it during the move. We were willing to write off all the other damage to all the other property if they would just cover the TV. They refused, so we called on their insurance company to step in. After several months of round-robin with both companies, the insurance co. informed us that yes, the property of victims of Quality Movers' ineptitude was insured...by weight. Pennies on the pound for our damaged and destroyed property. It is our perception that the lies, the dissembling, the bait-and-switch tactics, the sneakiness, the cavalier--downright hostile--attitude toward people and property by Quality Movers is nothing short of despicable. We strongly suggest avoiding Quality Movers at all costs. There is absolutely nothing even remotely "quality" about them. We would not trust them to move a load of cow manure without their finding a way to destroy it. There are plenty of honest, reputable, capable moving companies out there. You would do better choosing one of them. read more
