The car wash is great and I love the free vacuums. But mostly love the employees who go above and beyond. Had this experience today: Great story today showing the kindness and goodness that still exists in people. Special shoutout to Shawn Ritter at Royal Express Car Wash in west Evansville for saving the lives of eleven babies today! A mama duck and her twelve tiny ducklings were walking in the parking lot between the Fifth Third Bank and the Royal Express Car Wash. A kind gentleman who was using the vacuums saw that they were too close to the storm sewer grate and tried to intervene, but most of the ducklings fell through the grate into the sewer pipe below. The mama and one duckling were frightened and fled to the lake area behind the car wash. The man, along with a passing truck driver who saw what had happened, tried everything they could to help the ducklings, but were unable to reach them. Tim, an employee at Royal Express wanted to help, and was joined by Shawn Ritter, another employee. They were able to remove the grate, and then Shawn not only climbed down into the storm sewer, but also through another fifteen feet of damp and dirty pipe to reach the ducklings. He was able to gather them up in a bucket and bring them up to safety! From there he brought them over to the lake area where the mama duck had been seen and released them. The ducklings swam out into the lake and the mama duck immediately swooped down to claim them. See the video for the heartwarming reunion- the one duckling who didn't fall in even joins them in the end.
