Ribs usually feel too heavy for me but I couldn't resist trying them out over at RUB. You're gonna wonder what the fuss is about too if you keep seeing the place full of people and with lots more waiting outside even at odd hours of the day. A line, 3 groups deep, at 3:30 in the afternoon? It turns out, it's every bit worth it to wait for even a late lunch. They have some of the best ribs I have ever tasted in Manila! With fall-off-the-bone meat, a wallop of flavor, and really really good sidings, it is so worth the uncertainty of getting a table. Haha! Maybe if you call ahead and reserve, it'll be all good. I guess it says a lot when you see white guys frequenting the joint-- must be pretty good American food.
I love how they already have these set combo meals called "Raki's BBQ Ribs" where you can get a Singles order, a Super Duo, or a Family Brunch that comes with a big slab of the ribs plus 1, 2, or 3 sides, respectively. The sides vary-- you've got your extra carbs, veggies, and "sprice" (spiced fried rice, yum!)-- but they're all perfectly complementary to the ribs. Servings are all pretty big so I always just get the Singles order, which is good for one. My go-to sides are either the Sprice or the Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato, and if I'm with a group, we order the Onion Rings that comes with a creamy aioli dip! These onion rings are so good-- not overpowered with oil and batter. Usually you'd expect a meal like this, especially one that comes in a set, to go for about 300-400 in a big-name American restaurant, but here, surprise, surprise: the Singles is only P220! Such a good deal right? It's worth it to keep coming back. They have sandwiches, salads, wraps, and other yummy entrees too! read more
