My wife said "Stop Here!" at mile 10.5 on the Road to Hana. I thought "you must be kidding" In the pouring rain we approached a very homemade looking "food truck". It was more like one of those trailers you attach to the rear of your truck to haul your bikes. They had a fixed price lunch for two. The menu was: BBQ chicken, slow cooked shredded pork on a rice bed with a coconut curry vegetable stew, and sweet roasted banana in the peel. It was served on a "canoe" made from a layer of the banana trunk, lined with banana leaves and for utensils, he made chop sticks from bamboo, right before our eyes. This homemade tasting meal was flavorful, perfect for the rainy day, and the presentation was full of character. The dining room was a shack/canopy with picnic tables. Beverages were limited to coconuts. A totally memorable experience and the food was good too. Only there 4 days a week. Someone else operates at this location on the other days. read more
