I had to take a nap before writing this review. That is a positive comment about Rusty Rocket. Their beer flights are a bargain. I had the full, which is eight glasses, and these were not petite. That was at noon, when we had made our appointment for. So once we got home, I ate crackers and cheese, before retiring for the snooze. The proprietor, the wife of a husband-wife duo, had remarked on the need to sleep if you enjoy a stint of day drinking.
We showed up on their 32nd anniversary. We come to town every summer. That is not the exact place where the brewery is. Our rental was over in Fennville, the next village over, and usually the family has stayed in nearby Saugatuck. For fiteen years or so, our group, which is three generations, 14 people, plus 2 dogs, has trekked to the shores of Lake Michigan for a week. Some of the guys are home brewers. We all enjoy beer. So tours are on the menu. There are a surprising number of these businesses in the region, including those making cider.
This particular craft operation is on the grounds of a former campsite. It was huge, back in the day. The couple who operate it live on the other side of the lake. They are "dog people," with many photos of their rescues above the bar. You have to make an appointment. Locals sometimes just stop by when they notice the tasting room is open. One of my nephews arranged everything. The lady in charge was personable and chatty. She is in the right line of work. The husband stopped in. He started the hobby to provide the drinks his wife preferred. They also host events there. It's serene.
As for the beer, I enjoyed seven of eight pours. That is a good ratio. One just wasn't for me. It had a funkiness to the flavor. But that is just my sense of taste. I recommend the experience. We brought back a growler worth and some merchandise. read more
