I typically do not shop at Safeway, but this location at Val Vista and Germann is only a few miles from my house and had a Grand Opening, so we checked it out. Unfortunately, half of Gilbert was in the store and it was hard to walk around and see the store...most of the time I was just avoiding bumping into people or carts. The walkways were also quite narrow, especially between aisles. The store is laid out similar to other supermarkets, with the specialty areas like the deli and butcher along the outer walls. I did walk by the deli and notice they do not have Boar's Head products...which is definitely my brand of preference for cured meats and cheeses. I also didn't see any spectacular deals on any products...being a Grand Opening I was expecting lower prices on something I that would tempt a purchase. I'll have to come back here once the crowds die down and really look for some unique products I can't find at the other neighboring stores. Otherwise, I likely won't become a Safeway regular. read more
