We set out for a return visit to Berry's Seafood and Catfish House where we dined a year before, but decided we weren't in the mood for massive consumption, and stumbled upon Shivers Creek, just off the highway in the same town. They apparently have multiple locations, and their emphasis is on fried catfish and shrimp.
This location, subtitled "Express" has a limited menu of the seafood, fries, hushpuppies. Mississippi raised fish is their boast, and they have perfected the breading and cooking method, and my order was done in a jiffy.
Seating is all outdoors, picnic tables under a shelter, the tables topped with the usual condiments and rolls of paper towels.
This would be the first of many catfish meals I would have on this trip. Growing up in Minnesota, it wasn't something that was served to people; more often is was chunked to use for bait for walleye or northern pike.
But I'm glad I got introduced to it somewhere down the line. When I travel in the South, I can't get enough of it. Cajun? Creole? No matter. Delicious. read more
