OMG, this place is fantastic! I'm not one to use the exclamation mark, but this motel really deserves it. From Evangeline, the friendly front desk girl (who gave me great directions), to the huge rooms in this unique and quirky little motel, this place rocks. I actually had planned on staying at the Thunderbird Motel, another good choice when in Mitchell, but when they quoted me $70 for a single on a week night, I made a bee line to the Siesta (only $38 for the same thing). The outside of the motel reminds one of days gone by, with a little extra ornamental metal work, but once inside the rooms open up to the size of a decent apartment, including lounge area with sofa and chairs, two queen beds, a work desk, huge flat screen TV, mini fridge, microwave, a dressing area and a bathroom with a tub. Lots of wood paneling and a few fake plants give the place a homey feel that you don't usually get for $40 a night, anywhere. Are you listening Motel 6?
The parking lot is big, not sure if they get truckers, but they got the room to park them if they show up. The Siesta is located just a short hop from Mitchell's biggest claim to fame, the Corn Palace. It's also right across the street from a decent grocery store, for you do it yourselfers.
Oh and let's talk about the free wifi for a minute, it pumps out the internet at a very healthy 10 Mbps AND is password protected. So for those of you who need to get some work done, the Siesta's high speed interweb awaits you. Okay, they don't have breakfast, just coffee in the rooms, but come on, for the money you're saving here, go out and buy yourself an omelet at the breakfast spot across the street, or better yet, bring it back to the room and eat it on the giant sofa like you do at home. read more
