This sculpture is located in UIndy, across from the main campus, at the corner of Otterbein and Hannah Avenues. It is on the side of Good Hall and is part of UIndy's Sculpture Walk, sponsored by Fifth Thirds Bank. You are able to pull up a map of the 20 plus sculptures online and make a day of visiting each piece.
This sculpture is the collaborative work of Kevin Brunett and Kristin Thielking. The sculpture is made of steel that is painted white and is intended to depict an abstract river, whose wave are affected by the wind. It consist of three, 13 feet tall poles with what to me looks like Mardi Gras masks, that represent waves.
This piece is kinetic, powered by wind. The top pieces wave from side to side as the wind blows past. It is a simple abstrtact piece, but I like it.
Being that the sculpture is located on the UIndy campus there is a lot of parking available, however, most of it requires a parking permit. I just parked in an open spot, got out and took a closer look. I was not in the spot long. So, if you are feeling lucky, you can do the same thing or you can find guest parking.
As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful pieces of public art on campus, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. As I previously mentioned, you could download the Sculpture Walk map that is online and make it a half a day or so.three read more
