Only a stones throw from Cowcaddens subway station lies The Station Bar. It has all the charm of a classic 'Jack & Victor' haunt but with a swanky makeover to bring it up to date. I popped in for a quiet post-lunchtime drink and found it suprisingly busy for the hour, with a nice mix of locals and professionals from nearby offices. There is a selection of guest ales which make for a change from the norm (and keep old man in me happy) and when this is combined with their 'Malt of the Month' I'd definietly say they were on to something. Although I didn't order food, the menu looked good, was reasonably priced and the family beside me certainly seemed to be enjoying theirs. All in all, I'd say this is a gem just on the fringe of the city centre and well worth a visit. read more
