Storefront is small, windows are steamed up, and it smells delicious as soon as you walk in!
I've had Super Baker bookmarked for a long time, but just forgot about it / the person I was with wasn't interested in going / wasn't in the area. Most of the time, I just forgot about it!
I find that Filipino pastries/desserts tend to be on the sweeter side, and if you're unfamiliar with it, it may throw you off. The pastry was deliciously flaky, but even for the empanadas, I found it a tad sweet. (Even though they look similar, don't expect it to be like the Latin American ones.) This isn't my preference, but I'm not going to base my review on this.
Aside from their empanadas, they're also known for their Hopias, which if you're Chinese, is a smaller, ball version of the Old Lady / Wife / Sweetheart "Cakes". Although, I never really liked this pastry, I can see the appeal.
Hopias are offered in various flavours such as Winter Melon, Mung bean, & Ube.
Gentleman who was helping me was very friendly, explained everything. Empanadas were $2, Hopias were just under that. read more
